Since 1985, we have seen a number of DJs come and go in the Springfield, MA market. The biggest mistake most DJs can make is thinking it's all profit. If you're a new DJ, there are several items to consider before starting your business.
Now that you've purchased your equipment, do you have a complete backup system? What happens if a piece of equipment fails?
Startup costs: Such as office - telephone - ads - website - taxes (state and federal) and I could go on and on. $$$
Image is everything: From your information packet - website or meeting a client for the first time. Normally, your client has already make their choice about you within the first five minutes. Speaking of websites, I can't understand why some DJs waste good money on a one page website. If you can't produce a good looking site, then don't! Once again, it's all about image.
Insurance for equipment and liability: If you're in business, you need it. Think of it this way, you have insurance for your car, don't you??? Ask yourself why. Protection. This is the same reason you should have it for your busniess.
Have a written contract: It protects you and your client.
Don't charge the BIG BUCKS if you're only worth $100 to your client. It's called VALUE !!!!!!!! Besides, you're only hurting your fellow DJs
